Name: Tanya Bustamante

Job: Waitress at La Hacienda Mexican & American Restaurant

Background: Bustamante was born and raised in Portales and graduated from Portales High School.

Time on job: Six years

What does your job entail? Normal waitress duties. I place customers at tables, get their drinks and make sure the customers are taken care of.

What is a typical day like for you? Every day is usually the same. I just clean and prepare everything for the rushes. I come in and prepare the chips and hot sauce. Between 2:30 and 5 in the afternoon, I clean and get everything ready for the night rush.

Why did you choose this job? My grandparents owned the restaurant before I was born. I grew up here and I have known how to take care of things here since I was little. My aunt and uncle own the restaurant now. My mom has waitressed and my dad has cooked. It is a family business.

What kind of training is needed for this job? It is mostly on-site training.

What do you enjoy most about this job? I enjoy being around people. At least once a day I meet someone new that is not from this area.
