A 29-year-old Roosevelt County woman was arrested Monday afternoon on charges of hitting a 12-year-old girl with her car and leaving the scene, said Portales Police Detective Todd Moore.

A white, four-door luxury car struck the girl about 4 p.m. Monday on North Avenue J. Moore said the girl had no major injuries.

Police patrolled looking for the vehicle and stopped the woman at West Sixth Street and South Avenue C shortly after the wreck. The woman was still being booked Monday afternoon, but Moore expected her to be held at the Roosevelt County Detention Center on misdemeanor charges of leaving the scene of an accident and other traffic violations.
