It’s their job: Kim Butler

Name: Kim Butler

Job: Librarian and art instructor at Steiner Elementary School

Background: Butler grew up in Portales, but went to school in Waxahachie, Texas, before attending college at Eastern New Mexico University.

Time on job: 19 years

What does your job entail? I read to kids, check books in and out and make sure we have the right books for our age groups to read. I also teach art here and do a little multi-tasking.

What is a typical day like for you? It tends to be non-stop. From the time I walk in the door to the time I go home, I always stay busy. I love it.

Why did you choose this job? I started out as an art teacher 15 years ago. We did not have a librarian, so I was moved to the librarian position.

What type of training did you receive? I was just planted here.

What do you enjoy most about this job? Being around the kids and their hugs, love, and little words, such as when they say “I love you” and they really mean it.
