RGH Auxiliary

The first meeting of 2009 for the Roosevelt General Hospital Auxiliary met in the home of president Sid Phillips on Jan. 21.

President Phillips called the meeting or order with the reading f the Auxiliary Prayer. She introduced a visitor, Sherry Fahrenkrug. Sherry demonstrated a duck puppet and suggested it be sold in the gift shop.

Wanda Martinez, treasurer, gave her report for the past month and the 2008 year. All bill have been paid, and the club reported a healthy balance. Plans were projected for the new year. Three educational grants for the semester were recommended by the Educational Grants Committee. Recipients of the grants are Angela Partin, Gianna Uttaro and Christi Fields.

In the absence of Vice President Faye Fenton, President Phillips presented Hour Bars to Peggy Jones and Rosalie Patrick for 100 hours each. Linda Uttaro was thanked for working 21 hours during the holiday. A discussion of the Home Healthcare services was held.


Altrusa International Inc. of Portales met Monday in the ENMU Sandia Room and heard music by some of the members of the Portales High School choir, under the direction of Franklin Smith. The Altrusa Club recently donated $5,000 to the choir to help defray expenses of their April trip to Washington. D.C.
