Sleeping is store’s top priority

Sleep Solutions has been open for three weeks.

Bobby Hamilton is the store manager.

“Everything was pretty smooth sailing in getting everything setup,” Hamilton said. “We threw the sign up out front and we didn’t start advertising until Feb. 1. We were open about a week before the advertising started and we had a great response.”

A bit of history: The store is owned by Max Merrick, who owns the True Value and Ashley Home Furniture Store in Portales. Hamilton is the son-in-law of Merrick. Hamilton said they decided to do the Sleep Solutions store about a year ago.

How he got started: Hamilton grew up in Santa Fe and came to Portales to attend Eastern New Mexico University. He graduated in 2006 with a degree in business administration.

Hamilton started out as a delivery-man for Factory Direct Furniture in the fall of 2004, which is now Ashley Home Furniture Store.

“I started out as a delivery person,” He said. “Then I got the opportunity to do sales and then I became an assistant manager over at the Ashley Store. Then this came about and I got the opportunity to run this store.”

Multitasking: Hamilton said the job requires sales and managerial experience, dealing with employees, dealing with issues and understanding financial statements. Hamilton said having all-around business knowledge will help to be in his position.

Roosevelt County and beyond: Hamilton said Sleep Solutions serves Clovis and Portales area, but also attracts customers as far as Roswell and into West Texas.
