Tarleton State sweeps Hounds and Zias

STEPHENVILLE, Texas — A promising first half gave way to a nightmare second half for the Eastern New Mexico University Greyhounds Wednesday night.

The Tarleton State Texans handed the Hounds their 10th straight loss 64-55 in a Lone Star Conference South game.

ENMU built a 28-21 lead late in the first half, capped by a Brandon Wilson 3-pointer. The Greyhounds led at the half 34-30.

The Texans (15-8, 3-5) tied the game early in the second half before going on a 16-5 run to take a 56-45 lead.

Eric Williams led the Texans with 16 points and Cortney Hill added 15.

Equs Darby led the Hounds (4-19, 0-8 LSC South) with 13 points, followed by Donovan Schultz’ 11 points.

TexAnns ride bug first half
STEPHENVILLE, Texas — The struggle continues for the Eastern New Mexico University Zias.

Tarleton State raced out to a 25-point halftime lead Wednesday en route to a 77-56 win over the Zias in a Lone Star Conference South game.

The loss was the Zias’ 10th straight.

JoAnne Jones and Sonya Sundberg scored 18 points each for the TexAnns, who won their third straight game. Jones, a 6-foot junior center and reigning LSC South player of the week, also collected 14 rebounds as the TexAnns (13-10, 4-4 LSC South) completed the season sweep of the Zias.

Sophomore Cat Clay led ENMU (9-17, 0-8) with 16 points and freshman Lace Clark chipped in 11 off the bench.

Already up 29-10, Tarleton outscored ENMU 17-2 during a seven-minute stretch to take control of the game.

Eastern was unable to draw closer than 21 points the rest of the way.
