How long have you been in the ministry? I have been in the youth ministry for seven years; three of those years have been here at Central Christian.
What is a typical day for you? My mornings are usually spent in the office working on the computer. I do a lot of marketing, advertising and web design. The church also has a radio show that I try to keep up to date. Sometimes I take time out to eat lunch with the students at school. I prepare the lesson for Wednesday nights at the campus house. I gather information on trips that we are going to be taking. Some of the time I just spend day dreaming about how to make this ministry better and how I can recruit more people to help out with the youth.
What is your favorite scripture? Most people know John 3:16, but I would probably say John 3:17 because it says, “God did not come into the world to condemn the world but to save the world.” I think that is so powerful.
What is your fondest memory at this church? I think that my fondest memory has to be a youth trip to a conference a few years back. There were about 30 of us that rode a train from Albuquerque to California. The memories we made on that trip were priceless. We drew mustaches on those that fell asleep and chased each other from train car to train car. Just looking back over all of it, it was the friendships that I created and just being able to share in those moments in their lives that made it all worthwhile.
What is your favorite movie and why? My favorite movie lately has been “Iron Man.” It is a fun action movie. Iron Man learns in the beginning the value of life and friendship. He learns how important it is to have friends and people who care for him. That’s pretty huge; even if you are Iron Man, you still need someone to be there for you.
What is your favorite fictional character and why? This might sound funny, but if I had the chance to sit down and talk to someone it would have to be the King Arthur character from the Stephen R. Lawhead book “Arthur.” The reason is because of his ability to lead, inspire and how he created this incredible kingdom.
As a child, what was your favorite toy? GI Joes. I loved GI Joes. They were so much fun. I used to play GI Joes with my cousin all the time.
What is the worst thing about being a grown up instead of a child? You are responsible for your decisions. I remember when I was a kid, when I would do something wrong, I could apologize and everything would be ok. Actually living with consequences and choices as you become an adult is probably the most difficult part.
