KINGSVILLE, Texas — Junior Jeremy Thompson finished third in the 400
in 49.29 seconds Saturday, leading Eastern New Mexico University’s men
to a sixth-place finish in the Lone Star Conference track championships.
The Greyhounds finished with 24 points in the seven-team
competition. Abilene Christian ran away with team honors with 238
points, followed by Angelo State 138, Tarleton State 126, Texas
A&M-Kingsville 60, Texas A&M-Commerce 49, ENMU, and West Texas
ENMU’s women were last in a six-team field, scoring 13 points.
Angelo State obliterated the field with 331 points to 175 for Abilene
Christian, 84 for Tarleton State, 23 for Commerce and 19 for Kingsville.
ENMU’s men scored one point in Friday’s competition, a sixth-place
outing in the 3,000 steeplechase by Tyson Jex at 10 minutes, 45.16
Other track points on Saturday came from Brian Smith, sixth in the
100 in 10.84; Josh Browning, sixth in the 200 in 22.76; Richard Kogo,
sixth in the 1,500 in 4:10.70, the 400 relay team of Smith, Jayson
Brooks, Browning and Tyler Anderson in 41.96, and the 1,600 relay team
of J.J. McCoy, Thompson, Jacob Jones and Kenyatta Carter in 3:21.48.
Scoring in field events were Karthick Srimanoharan, fifth in triple
jump at 46-3 1/2; and Daniel Draper and Steven Aragon, fifth and sixth
in javelin at 174-2 and 168-4, respectively.
The women earned three points on Friday, getting a fifth place
finish in hammer throw competition from Vyanca Vega at 128-2 and a
sixth from Tracey Young in high jump at 5-1 3/4.
On Saturday, Kassie Daugherty posted a fourth-place finish for the
Zias in discus at 136-1, while the 400 relay team of Conitra Olson,
Britney Stephens, Christina Garza and Chenavia Ruffin was fourth in
50.65 seconds and the 1,600 relay team of Ruffin, Stephens, Nicole
Blackwell and Nicky Reid took fifth in 4:19.68.
