Portales city councilors will meet with members of the Eastern New Mexico Rural Water Authority in a workshop at 6 p.m. today at City Hall.

The primary emphasis of the meeting, according to Mayor Orlando Ortega, is the proposed expansion of regulatory powers by the water authority.

Ortega said Portales city representatives don’t feel “comfortable” with the proposal and a counter-proposal will be made to the invited ENMRWA officials that would keep the city involved in the process of building a water pipeline from Ute Lake to eastern New Mexico.
