The city of Portales contended that city records showed no instances, with one minor exception, of any drainage project constructed in the city that would cause the surplus waters of the city to flow toward the former W.S. Vinsant farm, according to the Portales Tribune. Vinsant was seeking $100,000 damages from the city for losses he said he suffered because of city drainage water diverted from its natural flow.
