About 175 quilts will be on display Friday and Saturday at the Memorial Building in Portales for the High Plains Quilt Festival.
The fourth annual event costs $3 for both days and includes hourly workshops.
Sharon King, executive director of the Roosevelt County Chamber of Commerce, said the workshops cover a mix of topics including Quilting Math Fun, Texture Magic, Preparing Your Quilt for Machine Quilting and Designing a Quilt.
Two three-hour classes will be held and cost extra. Choose to Fuse will be held from 9 a.m. to noon Friday at the chamber, and Peekaboos will be held from 1-4 p.m. Saturday at the chamber.
Friday will also include a silent auction to benefit the Food Bank of Eastern New Mexico.
King said the chamber is constantly looking for new things to bring to Portales.
“(Quilting is) something that’s been in our culture for centuries, but we don’t really hear about it,” King said.
King said it’s interesting to see three generations of quilts hanging next to each other.
The event’s featured quilter is Linda Fisher of Lubbock, Texas. The featured guild is Caprock Art Quilters of Canyon, Texas. Each of the quilts will be judged by certified judge Nell Smith from Midland, Texas.
