This day in history
On this day in 2005, John Paul II, history’s most well-traveled pope and the first non-Italian to hold the position since the 16th century, died at his home in the Vatican.
Six days later, two million people packed Vatican City for his funeral, said to be the biggest funeral in history.
Here’s the rest of the story:
Today — Wet and wild. Isolated showers…some with thunder in the afternoon. Highs in the mid to upper 50s. Gust up to 40 mph.
Tonight — More of the same. Windy. Lows in the upper 20s to lower 30s. Northwest winds 20 to 30 mph in the evening. Gusts up to 40 mph.
