Their turn: Republican tax assessor candidate tours experience

New Mexico’s primary elections are June 1. TEX BELCHER is a Republican candidate for Roosevelt County tax assessor. He’s running against KENNER CARRASCO.

Here’s what Belcher had to say when we asked about his qualifications for the job:

“My name is Tex Belcher and I was born and raised in Roosevelt County. I have three children and I have eight grandchildren.

“I believe I am qualified to continue to serve as your tax assessor because of the experience I bring with me as tax assessor.

“I served as deputy tax assessor under Royene Tivis for eight years and was elected tax assessor for four years. I believe my knowledge and experience in running the assessor’s office makes me a qualified candidate to be re-elected to the position of tax assessor for Roosevelt County.

“I believe in fairness and honesty to the citizens of Portales and Roosevelt County and have strived to keep this in mind while serving. Our office staff continues to hold the property values as low as Santa Fe will allow us.

“If anyone has questions or concerns regarding their property values, please feel free to contact us at 356-6971. If re-elected to this office I will continue to bring my skills and experience to the office and would appreciate your continued confidence.”
