Today in history

On May 13, 1973, tennis stars Bobby Riggs and Margaret Court face off in a $10,000 winner-take-all challenge match.

The 55-year-old Riggs, a tennis champion from the late 1930s and 40s who was notoriously skeptical of women’s talents on the tennis court, branded the contest a “battle of the sexes.”

Here’s the rest of the story:

Today — End of the wind…partly cloudy. Highs in the upper 60s to lower 70s. East winds 10 to 15 mph.

Tonight — And the beginning of rain… Mostly cloudy. Isolated showers and thunderstorms in the evening…then scattered showers and thunderstorms after midnight. Lows in the mid 40s to lower 50s.
