The Gus Macker basketball tournament scheduled this weekend at Clovis Community College has been postponed to Sept. 4-5.
Patty Donovan, a marketing manager at Michigan-based Gus Macker, said the 3-on-3 hoops tournament was pushed back in a hopes of drawing more teams.
Gene Martin, the tournament organizer, said Monday about 100 teams were signed up for the event, which has not been held in Clovis since 2001.
Donovan said the September weekend was likely to be less busy, preventing residents from having to pick between basketball and another event in Clovis.
Saturday, Clovis High School is hosting a semi-pro football game at Leon Williams Stadium, the Curry County Events Center is hosting an American Kennel Club dog agility trial and thousands are expected to be served at the annual Juneteenth celebration at Potter Park.
“There were some schedule conflicts here and there,” Donovan said, “and it benefited by moving it ahead.”
