MainStreet program receives recognition

The Portales MainStreet Program received the Award for Overall Excellence in Economic Positioning at the New Mexico MainStreet 25th anniversary awards banquet Saturday in Albuquerque, according to a news release from the state Economic Development Department.

“Portales was recognized for conducting a comprehensive series of activities that over time improved the community’s overall economy and attracted business investment to their MainStreet district,” according to the release.

Portales MainStreet received $500 for its continued work.

After a competitive selection process, according to the release, each of four communities were given an Award for Excellence in one of New Mexico MainStreet’s four points: Organization, design, promotion and economic positioning. A fifth community was recognized for excelling in all four areas.
