ODESSA, Texas — Junior middle blocker Kristen Beck compiled a season-best 18 kills as the Eastern New Mexico University volleyball team salvaged its finale in a weekend tournament hosted by Texas-Permian Basin, beating Oklahoma Panhandle State 25-19, 25-20, 23-25, 25-22 for coach Mike Maguire’s 400th career win in the program.

Maguire returned to the bench this season after spending 20 years (1987-2006) as the Zias’ coach. Beck, who was selected to the all-tournament team, was one of four players with double-figure kills for ENMU (8-9).

Sophomore outside hitter Amber Durand posted a double-double for the Zias with 15 kills and 14 digs.

ENMU led the Lady Aggies (6-14) most of the way, but OPSU used a 5-3 run to break a 20-20 tie and force a fourth game. That one was also tied 20-20, but consecutive kills by junior middle blocker Stacey Main and Beck put the Zias in front for good.

Senior setter Veronica Valdez-Kent had 46 assists and Valdez-Kent and sophomore libero Dallas Russell posted 13 digs apiece.

The Zias return to Lone Star Conference action on Thursday with a 7 p.m. matchup against Midwestern State at Greyhound Arena.
