My turn: Cooler weather makes hiking more appealing

By Clarence Plank: PNT staff writer

With the days getting cooler around New Mexico, going hiking might not be such a bad idea. It’s a chance to explore nature and see the changing of the seasons.

There are a couple of Web sites that list places of interest where hikers can enjoy the beauty of the nature. Explore New Mexico )www.explorenm.com) lists places by elevation, fees, length and controlling agencies.

Tripleblaze lists 100 of the best places to go hiking in New Mexico. Hikers can join the site for free or search for trails by city or find campgrounds at www.tripleblaze.com.

Slackerpack.com is another site that gives hikers information about hiking, geocaching and geology.

Users can even submit their personal Web site to the site.

And remember to dress warm and be safe when you’re hiking.

Also, remember to submit your pictures of New Mexico scenery to me. I would love to share them with our readers.
