The state Department of Transportation is installing a temporary traffic signal at Second and Main streets, according to a news release from the department.
The signal will go in this week and remain in flash mode until Oct. 25 to let motorists become familiar with it, according to the release. The stoplight is expected to start functioning normally Oct. 25.
In about a year, according to the release, the department anticipates installing new, interconnected lights at the Second and Main intersection and the First and Main intersection as part of the reconstruction of U.S. 70 in downtown Portales.
