It was Oct. 20, 1910, in Rockwood, Texas, when Joseph and Margaret America Garner became proud parents to a beautiful baby girl who they named Winnie Ethel. She was the 11th child in a family of 12 children.
Winnie is a long time resident of Clovis, having moved here in 1942. Since that time, she has made many good friends with strong bonds of love.
At 100 years old, she has seen her family evolve and she has seen a lot of technology develop from telephones and computers to airplanes and man landing on the moon.
A birthday celebration honoring her 100 years was held at Central Baptist Church Oct. 16, 2010, and was hosted by her three children, Louise Creek, Glen Brown and Brenda Morris. 100 helium balloons adorned the church foyer. Family and friends came from near and far to help celebrate this wonderful lady’s special day.
Winnie has seven grandchildren: Terri Brown, Judy Christensen, Kathy Creek, Wesley Brown, Lori Randolph, Scott Morris and Brent Morris. She has nine great-grandchildren. The event was planned by her granddaughter, Judy Christenson of Farmington.
Winnie lives independently, still drives herself around town, and is a very active church member who enjoys singing in the choir.
Happy 100th birthday. Your family and friends love you.
