The holidays are rapidly approaching and the Roosevelt County Chamber is now accepting applications for the 2010 Little Miss Merry Christmas Contest.
As a part of the City of Portales’ yearly holiday tradition, the Little Miss Merry Christmas Contest raises money for white lights on display during the holiday season throughout town and on the Courthouse.
The contest starts Tuesday and continues until 5 p.m. Dec. 8 with an official pre-parade Coronation Ceremony taking place at the newly renovated Yam Theater, 219 S. Main St., at 6 p.m. Dec. 9.
This year the contest has undergone some exciting changes to create a formal atmosphere around the Coronation Ceremony and its Royal Court contestants.
As always, the contestant who raises the most money through donations collected by her sponsor and through additional fundraising efforts will be crowned Little Miss Merry Christmas with all runners-up receiving the title of Princess.
The entire Royal Court will be presented and ride in the Lighted Christmas Parade at 6:30 p.m. Dec. 10 as part of the Christmas Jubilee Celebration.
The contest is open to girls between the ages of 5-10. All contestants must be registered by Tuesday. There is an information meeting at the Chamber of Commerce, 100 South Ave. A, at 6 p.m. Tuesday. Photos of the contestants will be taken for use by the Portales News-Tribune.
Previous winners, those who were crowned Little Miss Merry Christmas, are ineligible to re-enter the contest.
