Our people: Driven by music

J.T. Montoya lived in Clovis for 8 years until breaking out on his own in Phoenix to be a musician. His artist name is Keize which is a derivative of keys and seize. It originates from being known locally as a keyboard player. Montoya has been involved in music since the age of 11. Now he is earning a degree in graphic design.

When I get in my car, the first thing I listen to is… I usually just listen to my own music because I am my biggest critic and I always look to improve my sound. If not, then I’m probably listening to some Chamillionaire, B.O.B., or Lecrae.

In an alternative life, I would have been an… NFL superstar! For my Cowboys of course. Far fetched, though.

If I had an open plane ticket to anywhere, I would go to… Probably somewhere tropical. I’ve always just lived in the southwest region.

One movie I could watch over and over again is… Ray or Training Day.

What’s your idea of a perfect day? To make some sort of progress and not let negativity interfere with it.

What is your theme song? “Haterz Everywhere” by B.O.B.

What would you like printed on your gravestone? I have too long of a life to live. I’ll have to get back to you on that one.

What do you think about Clovis? It’s where I spent a majority of my life. It’s my hometown. It’s what will always be home to me. I’m not only trying to make it for my family and myself but also for every single person in Clovis. Someone always has to pave the way for the next person. Hopefully I can do that for somebody.

What do you think about Portales? It’s Clovis’ neighbor. I got love for everyone there too. Alot of people in Portales gave me support early on. I appreciate them alot.

Who is your favorite entertainer? Jamie Foxx; he’s the most well rounded talent I’ve ever seen. He can do it all and hang with the best of them in every category.

What’s so great about your favorite sport? Football. It’s physical and highly competitive. Every inch counts. The mental part of it is just as important as the physical part.

What do you envision your life being like in 10 years? Married with maybe 2-3 kids. But for now I am trying to get my career going strong and eventually start my own business offering Audio Recording and Graphic Design under one roof. I plan to keep on pushing my own music at the same time. My sister is currently getting her bachelor’s in music business too so we plan on working together in the future as well.

When you were a kid, what did you think you’d be doing as an adult? An athlete or musician.

If money were no object, what would you do to make the world a better place? If you erase money from earth then you eliminate a majority of the problems that exist. A majority evil acts or emotions are a result of money or something valued by a dollar amount. Greed, statuses, etc…wouldn’t exist at the levels they do. The love for money is the root of all evil.

Make up your own question and answer it. Where can we check out your songs and stay updated with everything you have going on?

Tell us about a few of your greatest individual accomplishments. Graduating from audio school, completing my second full length project and shooting a music video.

What is your greatest fear? “Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us… “ Heard that quote on a movie and it’s such a real statement.

What is your most prized possession? Faith
