Ticket feature: Mexican folk music, dance coming to Clovis Civic Center

Freedom New Mexico

Sunday afternoon will bring Mexican folk song and dance to the stage in Clovis.

Fiesta Navidad de Mariachi will perform at 3 p.m. at the Civic Center as part of Clovis Community College’s Cultural Arts Series.

Intertwining the trumpets, violins and guitarrons of Reynaldo Maestas, Mariachi Buenaventura and the dancers of Baila! Baila!, the show promises to begin the holiday season with a colorful and impressive show, according to a press release from CCC.

Maestas, the headline act, is a leading southwest mariachi entertainer who has been singing since he was 3 years old.

He attributes his career to listening to his mother’s Julio Iglesias albums as a child in Rociada.

Mariachi Buenaventura, Santa Fe’s premier, all-female recording group, has been performing together for five years locally and nationally.

A folklorico dance troupe from the Dance Academy of Albuquerque, Baila! Baila! “will delight the audience with romantic but powerful rhythms, colorful costumes, and exciting movements,” the release said.

Tickets are $15, $12 for seniors, students and military and can be purchased at the Clovis Community College’s cashier window, the Clovis/Curry County Chamber of Commerce and the Cannon Air Force Base ITT Office. Information: 769-4035
