Freedom New Mexico
The National Barrel Horse Association is kicking up dust in Portales and Clovis for the first time in nine years.
The association offers cowgirls and cowboys of all ages a chance to compete with other barrel horse riders from across New Mexico.
District 3 consists of Roosevelt, Curry, Colfax, De Baca, Guadalupe, Harding, Mora, Quay, Rio Arriba, San Miguel, Taos and Union counties. The NBHA has 20 scheduled races in Portales and Clovis, with their first 5 p.m. Feb. 15 at the Curry County Events Center.
A year membership is $62 and includes a magazine, opportunity to participate in shows for points to qualify for district, state and national events, and chances to compete for money. There are three classes: open, for any riders; seniors, for riders ages 50 or older; and youth, ages 18 or younger as of Jan. 1.
Contestants can enter online at http://fastenter.com or www.nbha.com for events, and check their standings.
