Samplings of recent calls to Portales law enforcement, according to police records:


About 10:30 p.m., an officer went to the 700 block of West 16th Street to take a report of a vehicle burglary.

A 29-year-old man said someone had broken into his 1999 Dodge pickup.

He said his wife parked the vehicle in the driveway about 9 p.m. Feb. 20. About 7 a.m. the next day, he found the papers in the truck scattered.

The man said he began to notice items missing a few days later, when his daughter found a lens cap from his binoculars on the ground. A 6-inch knife with a custom-made handle, binoculars, an FM transmitter for an iPod and a camouflage jacket, with a total value of $1,340, were missing.

The man said he didn’t know who had broken into the vehicle, but he didn’t leave it unlocked.
