ENMU narrows coach search to dozen

Eastern New Mexico University is narrowing the search for a women’s basketball coach.

ENMU athletic director Jeff Geiser said Monday that the school’s search committee planned to conduct phone interviews with 12 candidates over the next three nights, beginning today, and by next week should be ready to invite finalists for campus interviews.

Geiser said earlier that ENMU plans to have three to five candidates on campus before making its decision. More than 50 people applied for the position, he said.

“Because of the quality of the pool, I don’t see how we can’t bring in at least three,” Geiser said.

Lyndon Weese announced his resignation from the position March 1 after five seasons. The Zias had a 41-95 record during his time at the school, including 13-53 in the Lone Star Conference South Division.
