SAN ANGELO, Texas — The day didn’t start out to well for Eastern New Mexico University’s softball team on Saturday, and it never got much better either.
Lone Star Conference North Division members Cameron and East Central run-ruled the Zias in the LSC crossover tournament, Cameron posting a 10-2 win while the Lady Tigers rolled to a 12-0 victory.
The Zias (10-26), who lost 4-2 to Southeastern Oklahoma on Friday, wrap up play in the event with games against Southeastern Oklahoma and Northeastern State at 9 and 11 a.m. (MDT) today, respectively.
Cameron pitcher Carrie Harvey (13-9) carried a perfect game into the fifth inning before ENMU shortstop Paige Colburn broke it up with a bunt single. Colburn stole second and moved to third when Tonya Crockett reached on a one-out error.
Colburn and pinch-runner Samantha Emms then worked a double steal with two out, and second-baseman Kate Medrano pulled the Zias to 6-2 with a two-run single to left.
Those were the only two hits for the Zias, who went down in order again in the sixth. Meantime, the Aggies (19-17-1) rode four RBIs from Kelly Lentz to the victory, ending it on the eight-run rule in the bottom of the sixth.
Lentz and leadoff hitter Jessica Orr each had two of the five hits for Cameron, which benefited from eight walks and six Zias errors.
East Central’s Randee Crockett (8-4) and Cassandra Nordle combined for a two-hit, five-inning shutout in the second game, and Nordle aldo drove in four runs with a double and her sixth homer of the season.
Cameron finished with 11 hits and took advantage of four Zias errors. Twelve of the 22 runs allowed by ENMU in the two games were unearned.
