With an emphasis on community, the traditional Fiesta at Our Lady of Guadalupe will take place this weekend.
Offering food, games, music and dancing, the three-day event is an annual fundraiser for Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Clovis.
“This year we are really emphasizing the fact that it’s a community event,” said spokesman Ben Salazar.
A change to the format this year is the addition of a youth open mic period from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday.
Intended to showcase the talent of local youth, it is an old tradition that hasn’t been done in several years and organizers decided to bring it back to the schedule, Salazar said.
The dancers from La Casita Elementary and some local school drill teams are among some youth who are planning to perform.
Salazar said the church is also proud this year to have Albuquerque singer Jenna Martinez on tap for two shows Sunday.
An award winning native of Vadito, Martinez has released four albums and sings New Mexico style music mixed with rancheras, cumbias, salsas and fun songs, according to her website.
The music lineup will also feature the Texas band Exzezzo, country performers and progressive rock.
“There’s a little bit of everything for everybody, and of course always great food and plenty of games,” Salazar said.
Used as a fundraiser for the church, Salazar said music events are free, with individual charges for food and game concessions.
