STEPHENVILLE, Texas — Eastern New Mexico University’s women finished third while the men were fifth over the weekend in the Tarleton State rodeo, the final outing of the year for the Zias and Greyhounds.
Freshman Logan Medlin teamed with New Mexico Junior College’s R.H. Whitten to post a total time of 12.4 seconds, leaving them first in the average, first go and short go. Another ENMU freshman, Hadley Howe, teamed with NMJC’s Trey Southern to finish second in the competition with a total time of 14.8 seconds.
Sophomore Billy Good and freshman Pecos Thomas took eighth in the event, posting a time of 7.7 seconds in the short go.
For the Zias, sophomore Jessie Kirkes finished with a time of 15.2 seconds in goat tying, winning the first go and finishing second in the average. Freshman Gina Flewelling placed sixth with a time of 15.7 and finished fourth in the short go.
The ENMU men’s team finished fifth and the women seventh in the region. Good (header) finished fifth in team roping while Thomas was ranked fourth (heeler) and Medlin (heeler) fifth.
Kirkes finished sixth in the region in goat tying, while graduate student Kacey Kobza placed seventh overall in breakaway roping.
