Immigrant licenses concern citizens

I do not understand Patricia Whitney’s (June 29 letter to editor) and County Commissioner Jake Lopez’ stand concerning driver’s licenses for illegal immigrants.

Ms. Whitney conveniently leaves out the word “illegal” when she refers to immigrants getting licenses. No one is against legal immigrants getting driver’s licenses. Ms. Whitney states “the senate decided to keep driver’s licenses for immigrants because it was the right thing to do.”

I don’t agree that it is the “right thing to do.” People who come to America without going thru the proper procedures are here illegally. Therefore, they are breaking the law by being here and should not be rewarded for that. Those who believe having licenses will insure illegals will buy insurance are deluding themselves, it won’t.

Ms. Whitney also states that “the driver’s license issue had more to do with Gov. Martinez’ political agenda.” I believe the issue has more to do with the Democrats wanting more votes in elections by allowing illegals to vote, which they do with driver’s licenses. She also states “arguments against the current law cast immigrants as criminals.” They are criminals, they are here illegally.

Immigrants who come to America are welcome if they do it legally. It is a slap in the face to those who did come here legally to see others come here illegally and get the same privilages.

Ilegal immigrants are getting welfare for free food, housing, health care and education. We, as Americans, should take care of our own before giving charity to others, especially those who are here illegally.

Come to America legally…..welcome! Come illegally…..go back home or be deported!
