Good morning and welcome to the Freedom New Mexico Wednesday briefing.

Junior rodeo

The High Plains Junior Rodeo Finals next week are sponsored entirely by local businesses and individuals and the Clovis Curry County Chamber says contributions are still needed.

FFA leaders

Two Elida FFA members were elected to District FFA offices recently.

Kaylee Tibbs was elected to be the District IV vice president, and Justus Criswell is the District IV sentinel, according to the Elida Municipal Schools website.

On this day in 1960, In Los Angeles, Calif., Sen. John F. Kennedy of Massachusetts is nominated for the presidency by the Democratic Party Convention, defeating Senator Lyndon B. Johnson of Texas.

The next day, Johnson was named Kennedy’s running mate by a unanimous vote of the convention.
