July 24 — Police blotter

Samplings of recent calls to Portales law enforcement, according to police records:

Monday

• An officer responded to a report of fraud about 4:40 p.m.

At the Portales Police Department, the officer spoke with a 36-year-old man who said a checkbook was stolen from his home. The man provided copies of three checks that he believed a Lubbock woman had written.

Two checks were written to Allsups on the same day for a total of $87.25, and the third was for $66.27 to Pizza Hut. The signature was misspelled on all three checks.

The man said his expired driver license was stolen, too, and it looked like the clerk wrote information from the expired license on the back of the checks.

The ignition key to the man’s car was missing as well.

The man said the woman he suspected was a longtime friend of his wife and stayed with the couple for three days.
