Good morning and welcome to the Freedom New Mexico Thursday briefing.

Music, music, music

The Eastern New Mexico University music department is presenting a recital of chamber music for French horn, soprano and piano at 3 p.m. Aug. 28 in Buchanan Hall.

It’s free and open to the public.

Food drive

VistaCare Hospice in Clovis is partnering with the Food Bank of Eastern New Mexico for a month-long nonperishable food drive.

Nonperishable food items are being collected at VistaCare Hospice, 2708 N. Prince St., Albertsons Supermarket, S&S Supermarket and the Roosevelt and Curry counties’ chambers of commerce.

VistaCare will also be accepting nonperishable food items at the Curry County Fair in exchange for reusable shopping bags.

Kitchen tip

Cure for headaches: Take a lime, cut it in half and rub it on your forehead. The throbbing will go away.

Today in history

On this day in 1963, James Meredith, the first African American to attend the University of Mississippi, graduates with a degree in political science.
