State police on Tuesday identified the victims from Monday’s fatal accident in Roosevelt County as a married couple from Elk City, Okla.

Cassandra Horton, 67, and her husband Claude Horton, 84, died when their Ford Explorer collided with a privately owned garbage truck near the Curry-Roosevelt County line on U.S. 70, officials said.

State police spokesman Sgt. Tim Johnson said Cassandra Horton was driving and both victims died at the scene just before 4 p.m. Monday.

The driver of the garbage truck was not injured, Johnson said. His name was not released on Monday.

Johnson said police investigating the crash believe the garbage truck was turning into a private driveway when it was struck from behind by the Explorer. He said no charges had been filed in connection with the crash and the investigation into the cause will continue today.
