Hounds eighth, Zias fifth in Cowboy Jamboree

STILLWATER, Okla. — Junior Isaiah Samoei and sophomore Adrienne Montoya led Eastern New Mexico University’s cross country teams to solid finishes on Saturday in the Cowboy Jamboree, hosted by Oklahoma State.

The Greyhounds, competing in the university men’s division, finished eighth with 282 team points. Oklahoma State took the team title with 46 points to 81 for Indiana.

Meantime, the Zias were fifth in the college women’s division at 216. Friends (Kan.) took team honors at 33 to 92 for Iowa Central Community College.

Samoei, from Eldoret, Kenya, led the Hounds with a time of 24 minutes, 41.85 seconds fo finish fourth in a field of 321 runners. Senior Tallum Kipruto was 50th in 25:07.19.

Other places for the Hounds included Mohamed Noor, 80th in 25:31.87; Jacob Lozano, 88th in 25:41.11; Tyler Saiz, 113th in 26:05.05; Justin Netcher, 151st in 26:34.61, and Pedro Martinez, 173rd in 26:53.34.

For the Zias, Montoya was 10th in 19:07.76 over 5K. Sabrina Huelga was next for ENMU, 26th in 19:40.19.

Other finishers included Sofie Ingram, 61st in 20:14.37; Beth Bline, 62nd in 20:15.55; Alesha Jones, 64th in 20:16.91; Leigh Ann Omarkhail, 88th in 20:34.41, and Brittany Buchanan, 96th in 20:49.19.

The Hounds and Zias return to action on Saturday in Midwestern State’s Cross Country Carnival at Wichita Falls, Texas.
