Your hard work makes you a hero

Are there any real heroes today? Yes and yes! I submit there are many of Americans who are God-fearing people who strive to do right and live by “The Golden Rule.” I am prejudiced because I know more than I can count in Portales. These people are the ones who go to work every day, who live by godly principles, and who believe in honesty, truth and honor!

You will find these people helping others. You will see them at the voting polls. You will see them volunteering in community service. These “real heroes” are the ones who have made this nation “the land of the free and the home of the brave.” These men and women take a stand for accountability, responsibility and integrity. They are the real patriots.

“The American Dream” has been fulfilled by many who were willing to work hard, the “Good Book” being their compass. These heroes of America are not guided by selfishness. They are guided by a conscience that sets aside personal desires for themselves in order to pursue the good for the nation as a whole.

Yes, dear friends, you are my heroes. You work, plan and dream. You strive to do right for God and country. You are decent, hard-working individuals who love America and what it stands for. You are everyday, unpretentious Americans who salute the flag, pay your taxes and help your neighbor.

You are the backbone of this nation. You keep this country together. Please don’t ever give up because your godly living is not in vain. May all of us keep striving to leave a country for our children and grandchildren while we remember the lives of the many who have died to protect our country..

When I read about those great heroes of faith in Hebrews 11, I get excited. Against insurmountable odds people like Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Joseph, Moses and Joshua accomplished amazing feats. The secret of their success? They had deep, abiding faith. They struggled with problems just as we do but they ran the race and won. So can we! The secret of their success and ours in living successfully is that of keeping our eyes on Jesus, “the author and the finisher of our faith.”

Hebrews 12:12 in The Living Bible admonishes us to not lose heart: “So take a new grip with your tired hands, stand firm on your shaky legs, and mark out a straight, smooth path for your feet so that those who follow you, though weak and lame, will not fall and hurt themselves, but become strong.”

There is something about America that offers hope, opportunity and freedom.

Keep on. Keep on working to keep America great. You are the men and women who refuse to compromise the truth. This path of freedom has been paved with pain and many hardships, but you persevere. You have watched your ancestors come through wars, economic failures, epidemics and natural disasters. Yet you survived because you believe this nation is the greatest country on the planet. Take a stand for what is right, good and honorable. Never give up because in the end we will win.

You who love America carry the torch of freedom. You are the red-blooded Americans who still believe in the same godly principles displayed by our forefathers.

I salute you today. Your hard work, decency and loyalty are not in vain. You will turn this country around.

You dear friends, are my real heroes.
