Letters to the editor: Christmas isn’t shopping season

Christmas isn’t shopping season

This Sunday is Christmas Day and every merchant in the United States of America should gather all their employees around the empty shelves in their stores after they lock up on Christmas Eve and lead them in singing “What A Friend We Have In Jesus” because He is the reason for the empty shelves. What if Jesus Christ has not been born over 2,000 years ago in Bethlehem of Judea? There would not be any such thing as Christmas.

It is not Santa Claus’ birthday, although he is getting more attention than our Lord Jesus Christ and his birth is the reason many retail merchants do 50 percent or more of their annual sales from Thanksgiving to “Black Friday” to Christmas Eve.

God the Father sent His Son, Jesus Christ, into the world to die for our sins on a cruel cross, not to create a commercial frenzy. However, I still love Christmas, so Merry Christmas!!
