Today in history
On this day in 1887, Groundhog Day, featuring a rodent meteorologist, is celebrated for the first time at Gobbler’s Knob in Punxsutawney, Penn.
According to tradition, if a groundhog comes out of its hole on this day and sees its shadow, there will be six more weeks of winter weather; no shadow means an early spring.
Here’s the rest of the story:
Today — Isolated showers after 11a.m. Partly sunny, with a high near 64. South wind between 10 and 20 mph.
Tonight — A slight chance of rain showers before 11 p.m. then a slight chance of snow showers. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 34. West wind between 10 and 15 mph.
