Jann Johnson is a designer and crafter from New York city, and she will show how to make some special occasion crafts, including a Victorian frame, a seashell frame and some girls' wrist bouquets. She represents Elmer's products.
Casey Schwartz is a floral designer, and she's going to demonstrate how to create a long and low centerpiece which is perfect for a rectangle table or a mantle. She'll use a variety of flowers that are available year round. Her company is Flower Duet in Redondo Beach, Calif.
Information on food for entertaining, making sculpted dolls and new products for cooking will be the featured topics on "Creative Living" noon on Tuesday noon and 2 p.m. on Saturday. (All times are Mountain.)
Whether you start from scratch, or just want your family and friends to think you cook that way, Linda Eckhardt will show how to do half-scratch entertaining. Her company is Eckhardt Enterprises, and she's written several cookbooks. She is from Maplewood, N.J.
Sewing expert and designer, Lois Boncer will show how to make sculpted dolls. She'll also show how to make and attach hair, eyes and wings for angel dolls. Her company is called Aardvark to Zebra in Carlsbad, Calif.
Bernard Schnacke, Frieling USA, will provide information on products for people who really enjoy cooking, including some that are seasonal, some that are a lot of fun to use, and all are very functional. He lives in Charlotte, N.C.
Chocolate bourbon bundt cake
- 1 18.25 oz. chocolate pudding cake mix
- 1 Tbsp. all purpose flour
- 1 Tbsp. Dutch process cocoa
- 1/2 cup rinsed, drained and chopped canned sour kraut
- 4 large egg whites
- 1 1/4 cups buttermilk (from skim milk)
- 1/4 cup fat free sweetened condensed milk
- 1/3 cup water
Preheat oven to 350° F. Spritz a 10-inch bundt pan with cooking spray and set aside. Combine in a mixing bowl the cake mix, flour, and cocoa. Stir to mix. Add sour kraut and stir to mix. Add egg whites, buttermilk, sweetened condensed milk and water. Beat 3 minutes at medium speed. Pour into the prepared pan.
Bake on the middle rack of preheated oven about 50 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the middle comes out clean. To serve, cool cake in the pan on a rack about 5 minutes or until cake begins to pull away from the sides. Flip it over onto a cake serving dish. Pour chocolate bourbon soak over it slowly. Cool completely before covering the cake with a clear glass cake bell. Sprinkle with confectioner's sugar sifted through a tea strainer before serving, if you wish.
Chocolate bourbon soak
- 1/4 cup water
- 1/3 cup white granulated sugar
- 1 tsp. dutch process cocoa
- 2 Tbsp. sweet butter
- 1/2 cup bourbon
To make the Chocolate Bourbon Soak combine in a small saucepan all ingredients except bourbon. Bring to a boil and dissolve sugar. Add bourbon. Pour warm mixture over hot cake and cool. Makes 16 servings.
