Lady Rams capture district golf championship

LOVINGTON — The Portales Lady Rams squeezed past Lovington and Texico on Monday to capture the District 3/1A-3A golf championship.

PHS shot a four-player score of 366 to 372 for the host Lady Wildcats and 375 for the Lady Wolverines. They were the only schools with full teams.

All three teams will play in the state tournament next Monday and Tuesday at the UNM South golf course in Albuquerque.

Junior Paige Hartman led the Lady Rams at 41-43 — 84, good for second overall behind Texico's Laura McFarden at 82. Senior Tyler Rowley was fourth individually at 87.

The PHS boys' season came to an end. The Rams, needing to win the tournament, were a distant second to Lovington at 367.

Junior Jackson Powers led the Rams, shooting 39-48 — 87.
