CANYON, Texas — Senior Daniel Draper threw a season-best 210 feet, 5 inches to win men's javelin and senior LaDawn Spiller earned an NCAA Division II provisional national qualifying mark in women's long jump, highlighting Eastern New Mexico University's performances in the West Texas A&M open track meet on Friday and Saturday.
Spiller finished third in long jump with a distance of 18-6 1/2 becoming the second Zia to qualify provisionally. Also for the Zias, freshman Alesha Jones placed third in the women's 800 in 2 minutes, 21.12 seconds.
Meantime, the men got first-place finishes from sophomore Jake Espinoza, 49.14 seconds in the 400; junior William Welch, 6-6 3/4 in high jump; freshman Thomas Colvin, 55.10 seconds in the 400 hurdles, and junior Isaiah Samoei, 3:58.49 in the 1,500, while junior Colton Coleman was second in the 200 in 21.79.
