Lubbock man killed in one-vehicle accident

A Lubbock man was killed Monday in a one-vehicle accident in west Bailey County, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.

Charles David Sharp, 51, was the only person in the 2011 Lexus four-door that crashed on State Highway 214, 4 1/2 miles south of Farm Road 298 in Bailey County.

According to Carlson Trusler, a police communications operator for Texas Highway Patrol in Lubbock:

  • The accident took place at approximately 10:40 a.m.
  • Sharp's vehicle was traveling north, when it veered off to the right side of the roadway. It went through a barbed wire fence and traveled to an open field, where it struck a large utility pole.
  • Sharp, was declared dead at the scene at noon by the local justice of the peace. Sharp, who was a certified public accountant, was wearing a seatbelt.
  • The accident is still under investigation by the Lubbock County medical examiner's office and the Bailey County Sheriff's Department.
