Rams, Lady Rams earn state soccer berths

Both Portales High soccer squads have earned berths in the Class 1A-3A state tournament, but both will be on the road in the first round.

The Rams and Lady Rams were each accorded 10th seeds in the 12-team fields, and will be on the road on Saturday.

The Rams (10-8) travel to Roswell for an 11 a.m. test against New Mexico Military (9-8), while the Lady Rams (6-12-1) will be in Albuqureque to face seventh-seeded Bosque (10-9).

Winners advance to quarterfinal matches against No. 2 seeds, scheduled for Nov. 8. The boys winner faces Hope Chritian while the girls winner takes on Sandia Prep.

The top four seeds in both brackets have first-round byes.

Dora football team has first-round bye — The top-ranked Dora Coyotes earned the No. 1 seed in the six-team, 6-man football playoffs which begin this weekend.

Dora (8-0) will host the winner of a 2 p.m. quarterfinal game on Friday etween fifth-seeded Hondo and No. 4 San Jon/Grady at San Jon. That semifinal game will be played Nov. 9 or 10 at Dora.

On the other side of the bracket, defending champion Lake Arthur has a first-round bye and will host the winner of a 1 p.m. Saturday clash sending sixth-eeded Clovis Christian to No. 3 New Mexico School for the Deaf.
