Buffs, Broncos split in Floyd

FLOYD — Tabitha Ornelas scored 21 points to lead three in double figures, as Floyd took over in the second half for a 65-43 victory over Melrose.

Floyd (8-2), which also got 14 from Tessa Null and 12 from Jasmine Gomez, turned a 29-28 halftime lead into a double-figure advantage with a 15-6 third quarter before blowing the game open in the fourth.

Cara Barnard scored 17 and Taylor Bostwick 15 for the Lady Buffs, who fell to 2-5.

FLOYD — Wyatt Williams scored 20 points to lead three Buffaloes in double figures, and the Melrose Buffaloes held on Thursday night for a 61-58 win on the road against Floyd.

Ryan Hemminger had 11 and Braden Hemminger 10 for the Buffaloes (4-6), who rallied from a 28-23 halftime deficit and trailed entering the fourth.

Colby Rogers scored 14 to lead three in double figures for Floyd (3-7), which got 11 each from Jose Mendoza and Tanner Essary.
