Meetings Watch – Board of Trustees of Roosevelt County Special Hospital District

A report on Tuesday's Board of Trustees of Roosevelt County Special Hospital District meeting in the newly dedicated Fred Anthony conference room at Roosevelt General Hospital.

  • The meeting followed a reception and dedication ceremony naming the conference room after long time board member and supporter Fred Anthony.
  • Introductions were made between members of the board and the RGH medical staff present. A joint discussion was delayed for a future meeting because several members of the medical staff were affected by the snow storm or illness and could not be present at the meeting.
  • Based upon the recommendation of the RGH medical staff, the board approved David Stalker, MD, for associate privileges in general medicine.
  • Eva Stevens, chief financial officer, presented the financial statements and the balance sheet for the month of January.

Gross patient revenue for January was reported up 6 percent at $5.04 million.

Hospital inpatient services and clinic visits were significantly higher in January.

Operating revenue was $1.95 million, after deductions for insurance underpayments and bad debt.

Operating expenses were $1.88 million resulting in a positive operating income of $67,666 for the month.

Dr. Larry Leaming, chief executive officer, updated board members on physician recruitment.

It was announced that family practitioner Dr. Shabbir has signed an agreement and will be starting in August. Two other physicians have also indicated their desire to come to Portales next summer.

The Board was apprised of the Roosevelt County Community Block Grant application.

The grant would be used by the county to construct a building to house the Arise Sexual Assault Services program. The Board passed a motion to allow administration to support the grant by authorizing the transfer of a hospital owned parcel of land on 18th street to Roosevelt County for the purposes of constructing a building to house this program.

The Board entered into Executive Session to discuss limited personnel matters, returned to open session, and adjourned without further action.
