GALLUP — The Roosevelt County All-Stars put together a six-run, seven-hit rally in the top of the seventh Saturday night to beat host Gallup 9-5 and force the if-necessary game in the three-team state Little League intermediate division (age 12-13) baseball tournament.

The teams will meet again at 9 a.m. today to decide the championship.

Daniel Griego hit a two-out, two-run single to cap the rally after Gallup had taken a 5-3 lead with a five-run fourth.

Griego and Alex Galvan had run-scoring doubles in a three-run second for Roosevelt County before Gallup jumped ahead in the fourth.

Galvan, Josiah Lucero and Jovany Jimenez handled pitching duties. Jimenez got the save, working a 1-2-3 seventh with two strikeouts.

Roosevelt split its first two games against Albuquerque Eastdale, losing 12-11 on Thursday before coming up with an 8-3 win in an elimination game on Saturday morning.

Roosevelt led the first game 11-0 after scoring eight times in the top of the fourth, only to see Eastdale roar from behind. The Albuquerque squad scored four runs in the bottom of the seventh to pull out the win.

Galvan hit a two-run triple, then stole home for Roosevelt County in the top of the first. Griego’s two-run triple and an RBI single by Juan Spinosa highlighted the fourth-inning eruption.

After Eastdale lost to Gallup on Friday night, Roosevelt County eliminated the Albuquerque contingent behind the pitching of Joel Legarda, who went three innings, and Daniel Lopez, who tossed the final four.

The bottom of Roosevelt’s batting order — Julian Tellez, Corbin Baldridge, Griego and Jose Solorzano — combined to go 12-for-14 at the plate in the win. Meantime, Baldridge, playing center field, and Solorzano, in left, made running catches in the gap to hold off Eastdale rallies.
