The Portales Recreation Center provides a place for local children to learn and have fun during their summer program. Games, activities, and field trips highlight what the children participate in daily. We sat down with young Hanna Wade, 6, as we got to know one of the participants in the summer

What do you like to do at the recreation center?

Rollerblading, watching movies, we use mats to make houses. We go swimming too at the city pool.

We paint too, and we play soccer.

July 27. We’re going to have a slip and slide at my aunt’s house. My friends will be there.

What grade are you going into?

Second grade. I go to Dora Elementary.

What do you like about school?

Math and playing outside. I like to (do) math because it is fun. We learn to be nice and we learn to draw. Last year my teacher was Ms. Rita (Jones). At recess we get to slide and do monkey bars and do flips.

Where do you want to work when you grow up?

The people who check out at the grocery store.

Do you like animals? Do you have any?

I like horses and dogs. At my house we have a horse and a lot of dogs. One’s name is Cowboy. One’s name is Bones because you can see her bones. We have other dogs named Tazzy, Addie, and King. We feed and water our horse and we brush him too.

I have two sisters. They are fourteen and one. My little sister’s name is Hunter. She was born in Clovis. She is crawling and walking. We like to watch movies and she likes me to hold her.

Yes, for the Easter egg deal. We did it at the softball fields for the Easter egg hunt. They took a picture of me for the newspaper.

What are you favorite colors?

Blue and pink.

What is your favorite cartoon or movie?

My favorite movie is a horse movie. I can’t remember it. No wait my favorite movie is Monster’s University. We went and saw it in the theaters with the rec center. It’s funny.

What is your favorite song?

“22.” It’s by Taylor Swift. I like the song “Red” too.

Do you like to sing?

Kinda. I’m singing “22” for a talent show with my friend Reagan.

Have you gone on vacation this summer?

Me and my mom went to see her mom in Texas. We went to her house. We stayed with my mom’s mom. We rode horses. My mom’s mom is real nice.
