Elida wins opener; Dora falls

FORT SUMNER — The defending Class B state champion Elida Lady Tigers opened the 2013 volleyball season on Tuesday night, holding off Fort Sumner 25-13, 22-25, 15-25, 25-19, 15-13.

Kaylen Jasso had 14 kills and a block for the Lady Tigers, while Marily Varela compiled nine kills and three aces. Kenzee Criswell had 21 assists and served up four aces.

Elida won the junior varsity match 27-25, 18-25, 15-10 and took a junior high clash 25-14, 26-24.

Meantime, the Dora Lady Coyotes were beaten in three games in their opener at Eunice. The Lady Cardinals also took the JV preliminary in two games.
