Fort Hays State, ranked 23rd in NCAA Division II, spoiled the home opener on Saturday for the Eastern New Mexico University men’s soccer team, pulling away in the second half for a 3-0 victory at the ENMU pitch.

The Greyhounds (0-2) played toe-to-toe with Fort Hays through the first half, getting the only two shots on goal en route to a scoreless tie. However, it didn’t take the Hays, Kan.-based Tigers (1-1) long to break through when play resumed.

Daniel Peralta put the Tigers on the board about 2 1/2 minutes into the second half when he converted a penalty kick. Fort Hays made it 2-0 in the 59th minute when Diego Cabral was able to beat ENMU freshman goalkeeper Severin Niessen on a through pass from Michael Cole.

The final tally came in the 77th minute when Damion Cooper was able to convert on a through pass from the rightside from David Lucio.

Fort Hays outshot the Hounds on goal 6-1 over the final 45 minutes.

ENMU will be at home again on Tuesday with a 4:30 p.m. matchup against University of the Southwest.
