LAWTON, Okla. — The Eastern New Mexico University volleyball team put two long streaks to bed on Tuesday night against Cameron.

With a 25-14, 25-20, 25-18 win over the Aggies in the Lone Star Conference opener for both teams, the Zias (3-6) ended losing streaks of 16 matches overall and 24 road matches against LSC competition.

The previous conference win for ENMU — and its only one last season — came over the Aggies at home on Sept. 25. The last road win in LSC play was in five sets over then-league member East Central on Oct. 14, 2010.

It was also the program’s first win in an LSC opener since 2005. The last time ENMU swept a conference opponent also came against Cameron at home on Oct. 9, 2010.

Freshman outside hitter Courtney Lawson posted a double-double for the Zias, her fifth of the season, with a team-high 10 kllls and 14 digs.

Both teams struggled to get going in the first set, but the Aggies (4-5) committed 14 attack errors to help the Zias cruise to a one-game lead. ENMU had five blocks in the set.

The Zias broke open the second game with a 12-6 run after an early 2-2 tie. Cameron never got closer than three points in the set.

The Aggie led early 7-5 lead in Game 3 before senior middle blocker Kaitlyn Maddams capped off a 5-0 ENMU run with a kill. The teams were tied at 12-12 when the Zias went on another 5-0 run to take control, and Maddams put down an ace on match point.

Junior setter Karra Day had 31 assists for the Zias, while senior libero Hayley Couch matched Lawson with 14 digs.

Kelle Carver had a match-high 15 kills for the Aggies, but no other Cameron player had more than six. Kayla Hebert also had a double-double (30 assists, 11 digs) and Lauren Acuna had a match-high 19 digs for Cameron, but the Aggies finished with 33 attack errors to just 14 for the Zias.

ENMU opens its home schedule with a 7 p.m. conference clash on Friday against Texas A&M-Kingsville at Greyhound Arena.
